Davis, California is the city I have grown up in and it is also a small college town which houses University of California at Davis (UCD). It is has been wonderful growing up in a college town because of the wonderfully supportive people in the community and the incredible musicians who I have seen perform at the UCD’s Mondavi Center. College towns are amazing.

What advice do you have for other student musicians who would like to be successful?
Music is the only universal language in the world and it is really powerful. Appreciate the pieces you are playing and listen to many people play. When studying your music, look at the music scores when listening to the artist playing the piece.

What is something about you that would surprise people? I sleep with a raggedy stuffed animal called, Bear Bear. When I was growing up, my Mother would make Bear Bear tell me stories and try to get me out of bed in the morning. Also, my Grandparents, Aunt and Uncle were all born in Indonesia.

Besides being a musician, what career path are you interested in? I am very interested in mathematics and would like to continue my studies in mathematics in college.

What advice do you have for other student musicians who would like to be successful? Think of music as a story. The story does not have to make sense or have complete coherence, but just having it in mind helps to draw music out of the notes one plays.

What is your favorite candy bar?
Twix

What is something about you that would surprise people? When I was young, I was able to predict thunderstorms much longer before it happened. I would always run to the bathtub with food, pillows, and all other supplies I needed to “survive” the storm.

There were four generations of Adamson’s; my mom played cello, my uncle, grandpa and cousin played guitar, my great-grandma was on piano, and I was the violinist.

What advice do you have for other student musicians who would like to be successful? Even when it gets hard, keep practicing and stick with it. With success comes more hard work and if you learn the discipline sooner rather than later, you will be better prepared for the challenges that success presents.

Make it your goal to learn something new every day, whether it’s a musical term or a movement of a concerto. The best musicians are those who are constantly expanding their musical knowledge and abilities.

CPS conducted a photo contest asking people to submit their favorite musical memory via Facebook. What is your favorite musical memory?
My favorite musical memory would have to be going to the Bowdoin International Music Festival last summer (2011) for six weeks. It was a blast the entire time and not only was I able to perform and learn from so many amazing musicians, but I also met a lot of lifelong friends.

What advice do you have for other student musicians who would like to be successful? I would tell other students to be very open-minded as musicians and people in general. There are so many wonderful, worldly experiences that can mold a person and inspire them in different ways. By being willing to enjoy and learn from these experiences, they will further their musical horizons and be much more focused and successful.

What is something about you that would surprise people? I really like to watch crime television shows like CSI and Law and Order, they are my guilty pleasure (after I am done practicing, of course)!
